Treating Arthritis; The Various Ways Of Doing It

Treating arthritis can involve the use of medications, physical therapy and even surgery in cases that are severe. There are also other alternative methods that are said to cure this disease. Some of these alternative treatments include herbal treatments, homeopathy and acupuncture. In the early stages, over-the-counter medications, topical creams and conservative methods such as ice packs and heat relieves some of the symptoms.

Some of the medications that treats this disease include Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs or NSAIDs, corticosteroids and COX-2 Inhibitors. Others are Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs or DMARDs, biologic response modifiers and pain killers.

Treating arthritis can also involve the use of herbal remedies. Willow bark tea has pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects. The willow bark was the original herbal aspirin. Angelica is another herb that is used to treat this disease. It is commonly used in Europe and China. The Chinese variety is even sold in North America under the names dang gui or dong quai. Ginger and rosemary tea are also said to be helpful in the fight against this disease. Eating raw or cooked celery is also said to cure rheumatism.

Although homeopathy is a controversial treatment method, some people still use it. It involves the use of natural substances to stimulate the body’s own defense against specific symptoms of the disease. Homeopathic remedies are said to help improve immediate pain and stiffness. These remedies include aconitum 3X, Actea spic, Apis mellifica 3X, Belladonna and Arnica Montana. Acupuncture is also said to relieve some symptoms of arthritis.
